Visiting Pilots Process - PPR Essential (No excuses!)

Landing here without PPR is to trespass on a police operated airfield - expect to be questioned (and perhaps travel home by car). PPR is granted by the police but DO NOT contact them directly - DO contact one of the following airfield tenants: Atlas Helicopters, Lee Flying Association, Phoenix Aviation, Portsmouth Naval Gliding Centre, Solent Microlight Group.

Visitors share airspace, circuits and runways with Search and Rescue helicopters, police aircraft, gliders, tugs, winch cables, microlights, light aircraft (fixed wing and rotary), and military helicopters (e.g. Chinook) on air-test from the nearby MoD Fleetlands helipad, within whose ATZ the airfield at Lee resides. All flying is to the local procedures - visitors must comply or the visitor facility could be withdrawn for everyone else. The procedures are mandatory for flight safety. PPR is supplied to you once it is evident you are familiar with them.

A host's responsibilities are to: Provide a full briefing on the local procedures that apply within the Fleetlands ATZ and at Lee-On-Solent; Obtain from HPASU a PPR number for each visit hosted; Meet the visiting aircraft on arrival.

Visiting pilots responsibilities are to obtain PPR via a host tenant, comply with the local procedures in MCA Daedalus Aerodrome Manual Effective 18 May 2009, to read the Power Pilots Guide to Operating at Daedalus. A softcopy of the aircraft insurance certificate, in date and including £7.5m Crown Indemnity, must be supplied to the host in order to obtain PPR.

PPR numbers are issued to the hosting tenant only by Hampshire Police. Typically the hosting airfield tenant will request and then relay that number to a visitor once allocated. Hampshire Police require up to 24 hours notice to process a PPR request as this is not core police business. There is no landing fee for visiting aircraft as HPASU are not resourced to collect landing fees.
